Can we apply the Gospel accounts to ourselves even though they were spoken to Israel under the Law?
Yes, the Gospel accounts can provide perfect applications for believers, even though they were originally spoken to Israel under the Law. Yet they are not the basis for doctrine concerning grace, salvation, the Body of Christ, or the Rapture, so application must be distinguished from doctrine.
Les teaches that Jesus addressed the twelve as representing Israel, saying, “You are the salt of the earth.” Israel rejected that role, but believers today are salt as well. In the same way, throughout all the Gospel accounts, we can see perfect applications, even though those words were spoken to Israel under the Law. Here is where care is needed: Paul says the Old Testament things were not written for our doctrine, and grace, salvation, the Body of Christ, and the Rapture are not found there. That does not mean we ignore those Scriptures; Les loves to teach Genesis because it provides the foundation for what grace-age believers believe.
