Why is Christ not our King but King of kings?

Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords, but Scripture does not call Him the church’s King. To the church He is the head of the body, making believers members of Him rather than subjects. Paul consistently presents headship, not kingship, over the church.

Les explains that although Christ is King of kings, Lord of lords, and God of creation, He is not the King of the church. If He were the church’s King, believers would be subjects who must kowtow to His every command. Instead, Paul never presents believers as subjects. They are part of Him, just as a wife is part of her husband. A wife submits to her husband’s headship, not as to a king. Likewise, Paul consistently refers to Christ as the head of the body, and as the physical head is connected to the body, so Christ is connected to us as members of His body.
