Why is Christ not our King even though He is the King?
Paul never alludes to Christ as King of the Church, so believers do not address Him as their King. He is the King, but not their King, because members of His Body are joint heirs and part of Him. He is the Head; they are the Body. That relationship differs greatly from having a King.
Les explains that the Kingdom had been in the midst of Israel, but the nation for the most part rejected it and said, “away with him, crucify him.” After the crucified King’s burial and resurrection, He went to Heaven, so the Kingdom is now in Heaven, because the Kingdom is where the King is. Yet Les stresses that Paul never alludes to Christ as the King of the Church; we are never to address Him as our King. He is the King, but He is not our King, since as members of the Body we are joint heirs with Him and part and parcel of Him—He is the Head and we are the Body. That is a far different relationship than a King.
