Where will the people flee from Jerusalem during the Tribulation?

At the midpoint of the Tribulation, a cross-section of Israeli society will flee from Jerusalem to the mountains, thought to be southeast of Jerusalem. Some suggest the ancient city of Petra as the destination, though that location is uncertain and may not be large enough.

Les explains that at the midpoint of the Tribulation, the ones fleeing from Jerusalem are that cross-section of Israeli society. They will flee to the mountains, which he thinks are southeast of Jerusalem. Some feel it might be the ancient city of Petra. He personally does not think Petra is big enough, but calls it a possibility and thinks the direction is probably apropos. In Revelation 12, Israel is the woman, and the great red dragon is Satan. The dragon stands before the woman ready to devour her child, which speaks of Christ born at Bethlehem and Herod's decree to kill the boys.
