What did God the Son do with the scroll in Revelation 5?
God the Son came and took the scroll from the right hand of the One seated on the throne. Because He had accomplished redemption at Calvary, He was worthy to take the scroll and open its seven seals. He agreed to pay the mortgage, so to speak, to lift the curse from the planet.
Les explains that in Revelation 5 John wept because no one in Heaven or on earth was found worthy to open the book or scroll. Then one of the elders told him not to weep, because the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, had prevailed to open the scroll and loose its seven seals. The Lamb—the Christ, the Son God sent forth—came and took the scroll out of the right hand of the One who sat upon the throne. Les notes that God the Son qualified because of what He had accomplished at Calvary. The heavenly host sang a new song, saying He was worthy to take the scroll and open its seals because He was slain and redeemed them to God by His blood out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation, making them kings and priests to reign on the earth. Les then says God the Son takes this mortgage and agrees to pay it off in order to lift or deliver the planet from the curse. That, Les says, goes back to Israeli history, where redemption required a next of kin who was capable and willing.
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
