What did Jesus say would have to happen before Israel saw Him again in Matthew 23:39?

According to Matthew 23:39, Israel would not see Him again until they would say, “Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.” This is presented as a future event; at that time they were rejecting Him, saying, “Away with Him,” and refusing His rule.

Les explains that as Jesus approached the end of His ministry, Israel was not accepting Him. He called the temple “Your house,” unlike earlier when He called it “My Father’s house” in John 2:16. In Matthew 23:39, Jesus said they would not see Him henceforth until they would say, “Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Les emphasizes this is a future event: they were then saying, “Away with Him” and “We won’t have this man to rule over us,” but the day is coming when they will say those words. He notes this is the first of three distinct “untils” he likes to refer to.

Matthew 23:39

For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
