What did the Jews in Acts expect would need to happen for Jesus to return?

The Jews in Acts expected that Jesus would return after His death, resurrection, and ascension, once Israel believed that He was who He claimed to be. They did not foresee a 2,000-year interlude; everything was set for His second coming if Israel would just believe.

Les teaches that Stephen, in Acts chapter 7, rehearses that Christ came in His earthly ministry, was rejected, but is now ready to come a second time if Israel will believe He is who He says He is. Stephen does not see a 2,000-year interlude. The Jews in that day expected that since Christ had died, been raised, and ascended, everything was set for Him to return as soon as Israel believed.
