What are believers supposed to do while the church is still here?
While the Church remains on earth, believers serve as ambassadors for Christ, representing Heaven in a foreign land. They are to tell the lost world that reconciliation is accomplished, carry out Heaven's designs and hopes, and stand as a dam in the river of iniquity until lifted out.
Les explains that believers are citizens of Heaven living in a foreign land, and their position is that of ambassadors. An ambassador is a representative of a home government in a foreign country, so believers are to carry out the designs, hopes, and aspirations of their homeland, which is Christ. They are His ambassadors and the extension of Heaven on earth. If they do not do it, who will? Paul makes it clear in Thessalonians that the true Church, the believer, is like a dam in a river of iniquity. One day He will lift them out, and that river of iniquity will flood the planet like never before. But until that happens, believers are to be that dam in the river and stand in the gap, as Ezekiel said to the Jews. They are also to tell the lost world that everything has been done for reconciliation, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses, and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
