What happens when God reveals a truth to people?
The people to whom God discloses a truth become responsible to believe it and tie into it. Those revealed things belong to them and their children forever, so they may do all the words of the law. The secret things stay with the Lord until He is ready to reveal them in His own time.
Les teaches that God is the everlasting God, eternity to eternity, but He is also the God who keeps secrets and does not have to reveal them until He is ready in His own time. The Hebrew term carries that idea: He is the eternal God, but also the God who keeps secrets. Les uses Deuteronomy 29:29, where Moses says, “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Moses was speaking directly to the children of Israel, so the “us” there is Israel, but Les points out that it is not limited to Israel. It is God dealing with any time in history: when He reveals something, the people to whom He reveals it become responsible to believe it and to tie into it. Les also notes that a student from Wilberton found this verse and was excited about it, and Les uses it because it states the principle so beautifully.
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
