How does God progressively reveal truth in Scripture?
God, being eternal and the God of time, hides truths in time and reveals them when ready, so Scripture must be understood through progressive revelation. He did not disclose everything in Genesis but unfolded truth progressively through time, with Paul later using "mystery" for secrets God reveals.
Les explains that God is eternal and timeless, yet He is also the God of time. Since He is the God of time, He can hide in time things He wants to keep hidden, and reveal them when He is ready to reveal. Les maintains that the only way you can understand Scripture is to get a concept of the progressive revelation. God does not tell us everything back in Genesis, but He reveals things as we come up through time. Moses, writing by inspiration in Deuteronomy 29, states that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God. In the letters of Paul, the word "mystery" is used profusely for God's secrets, as in "Behold I show you a mystery, a secret."
