What kind of king and kingdom will God's promised ruler bring?
God's promised ruler will be a benevolent King—the King of Kings and Lord of Lords—not a despot or totalitarianist. His government will be a monarchy, not a democracy. His kingdom will be righteous, fair, and glorious, extending from David's royal line all the way into eternity.
Les explains that David becomes the beginning of the royal family that will lead not only through generations of this existence but all the way into eternity. Out of the line of Abraham and David would come this government, but it will not be a democracy; it will be a monarchy ruled by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He will not be a despot or a totalitarianist but benevolent. His kingdom will be righteous, fair, and glorious. This prospect was laid out in the Abrahamic covenant, and the rest of the Old Testament from Genesis 12 onward, into the New Testament, rests on that covenant. God also made other covenants, including the Law with Moses and the promise that Israel would be brought back to their homeland, along with the promise to David of a royal family leading up to the King and the government.
