How was life before the flood similar to today's busy world?
Before the flood, people were caught up in such intense, constant activity that they had no time to think about God's coming wrath and the flood. Today's world is no different: children and parents are so busy with endless commitments that they leave no time for the Word and fail to teach it.
Les teaches that the pattern before the flood was intense activity that crowded out any thought of coming judgment. He points to today's children, who are constantly pressured with activity—school work, soccer, football, baseball, golf, drama, music—and says those things are not wrong in themselves. The problem is that if a child is always hopping from one thing to another, he has no time for anything else. Parents are likewise so busy keeping their kids busy that they don't have time for the Word, and the children aren't being taught it. A child psychologist, Les notes, said the same from a psychology side: children can't handle constant go, go, go. Les concludes this is exactly how it was before the flood—so busy and intensely active they had no time to think about the coming wrath of God in the flood. Here we are, not one bit different.
