Why does Christ tread the winepress alone at Armageddon?
Christ treads the winepress alone because no one else was worthy to open the Father's scroll or to bring this particular judgment. Scripture says, 'I have trodden the winepress alone, and of the people there was none with Me,' as He executes wrath in the day of vengeance.
Les explains that the grape harvest was put into the wine vat and trampled by individuals, so the juice spurted over them. The prophet sees Christ covered with red apparel and asks why. The answer is verse 3: 'I have trodden the winepress alone.' Les connects this to Revelation 5, where God the Father had a scroll and no one was worthy to open it except the Son of God, who came and took the scroll. Here it comes to fruition: no one else was worthy, and no one else is worthy of bringing on this particular judgment. Of the people there was none with Him. He treads them in His anger and tramples them in His fury; their blood—not His—is sprinkled on His garments and stains His raiment. The day of vengeance is in His heart; this is not a God of grace now, but a God of wrath, and the year of His redeemed is come. The context does not name Armageddon, but it presents this final judgment scene.
