What was the Tower of Babel rebellion against?

The Tower of Babel rebellion was against God's explicit instruction to Noah's descendants to repopulate the earth and scatter abroad. Instead of dispersing, the people remained in the Euphrates region of Mesopotamia, gathered under Nimrod, and defiantly rejected God's command, which Scripture presents as rebellion against God Himself.

Les teaches that approximately halfway between Noah's sons coming out of the ark and the call of Abraham, the Tower of Babel occurred. It was a total rejection of God's instructions to repopulate and scatter around the world. Rather than scattering and populating the earth, that group from the sons of Noah rebelled against God and stayed in the area of the Euphrates in Mesopotamia. Under Nimrod, they gathered at the Tower of Babel. Les explains this is where all pagan religions began—everything contrary to the one God concept found in Scripture has its roots there, including Eastern religions, idolatry, and mythology. God then scattered them from the Tower of Babel, and idolatry took over the human race.
