Where was the Tower of Babel built?
The Tower of Babel was built in the plains of Shinar, in Mesopotamia, within the Euphrates River Valley. The whole human race, still speaking one language, gathered there and constructed the tower under Nimrod, where pagan religions began. This early post-Noah event occurred in that region.
Les explains that the Tower of Babel fits in the roughly 400-year interval between Noah and Abraham. By then, the human race had grown from Noah's three sons but was still one language and basically one blood. They all met in the plains of Shinar, in Mesopotamia in the Euphrates River Valley, and built the Tower of Babel. Les stresses that at that tower under Nimrod, Satan instituted all pagan and mythological religions, so every pagan or idolatrous religion began there. By Abraham's time, about 200 years later, the known world was steeped in idolatry and mythology.
