Is salvation by grace and faith alone?
Salvation is by grace and faith, plus nothing. Galatians contrasts law and grace, correcting Judaizers who said one cannot be saved by grace alone but must keep the law and circumcision. Adding law-keeping or works to grace is a false teaching that breeds doubt—grace plus nothing is the truth.
Les explains that the little book of Galatians constantly shows the difference between law and grace. He says the Judaizers were submarining the congregations in Galatia by insisting, 'You can't be saved by grace alone; you have to keep the law, you have to keep circumcision.' Les notes that while circumcision is not our modern issue, many other insidious things creep into believers' lives, causing them to doubt and wonder, 'Have I believed enough?' Then Satan suggests, 'Maybe I do have to do this, maybe I do have to do that.' So Les stresses that we must constantly stay in the Word, that it is true, and that it is by grace and faith, plus nothing. He also says Christ accomplished it; it is finished, and He did not die in vain.
