What counterfeit role does the false prophet play during the tribulation?
During the tribulation, the false prophet counterfeits the Holy Spirit by causing people to worship the Antichrist. As part of an unholy trinity with Satan and the Antichrist, he directs worship to him rather than to God the Son, mirroring the Holy Spirit's role in a deceptive, Satan-empowered way.
Les explains that the false prophet and the Antichrist are two humans who form part of an unholy trinity with Satan. They work in unison much as the Holy Trinity does, and both are under Satan’s control and power. Just as the Holy Spirit in the Age of Grace points people to God the Son and glorifies the Son, the false prophet will do the same thing during the tribulation—but in reverse. He will cause people to worship the Antichrist, thereby fulfilling a counterfeit role of the Holy Spirit. These two men will go to their doom, and Satan will join them later.
