Why does the Antichrist's stopping of Temple worship mean Israel must rebuild the Temple?
The cessation of Temple worship requires an existing Temple. Because the covenant-maker causes sacrifice and oblation to cease at the midpoint of the seven-year period, Israel must first rebuild and operate its Temple by that time, proving the Temple is functioning when he stops its worship.
Les explains that the prophecy's language is plain: in the middle of the week, or during the seven years, the individual will cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease—that is, Temple worship will stop. Since worship cannot stop unless it is already in operation, Israel must rebuild her Temple and have it operating by the midpoint. He notes it is beside the point whether it operates the whole three and a half years. This also fits his view that the Antichrist may be an apostate Jew: after signing the seven-year treaty, Israel is enraptured because he promises peace, prosperity, protected borders, and permission for Temple worship.
