Why can Jesus alone pay off Satan's mortgage?
Christ alone is able to satisfy Satan's mortgage because of His death, burial, and resurrection. As the Lamb who was slain and crucified, He is worthy to take the scroll from the Father, pay off the curse, and redeem people to God. His redemptive work uniquely qualifies Him.
Les teaches that in Revelation 5 the Lamb—the Christ, the Son of God—comes before the Ancient of Days according to Daniel and takes the mortgage from the hand of God the Father. He says, in effect, “I’ll pay it off.” What He pays off is the curse that has been on the world since Genesis 3, and now it is time to end it. He alone can do this because of His death, burial, and resurrection, and He is worthy because He was slain and crucified and has redeemed us to God out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation, making us kings and priests who will reign on the earth. Les also connects this to the seven years of tribulation, when Satan has his final time.
