What did Satan want Jesus to do when he tempted him?
Satan wanted Jesus to bow down to him. He took Jesus to an exceeding high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, and offered to give them to Him, attempting to get Jesus to submit to his authority.
Les explains that Satan is the god of this world, having total dominion, and was trying every ploy to get Jesus to bow down to him. In Matthew 4:8, the devil takes Jesus to an exceeding high mountain, shows Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, and says, 'All these things I will give you.' Les points out that it was Satan's to give because the world lieth in the lap of the wicked one. So Satan's temptation was to offer Jesus the kingdoms of the world in exchange for bowing down to him.
