What did Satan do after his first temptation of Jesus failed?

After the first temptation failed, Satan did not give up; he took Jesus up into the Holy City and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, with the temple crowds below. There he tempted him to cast himself down, citing that angels would bear him up.

Les teaches that after the first temptation—the lust of the flesh, hunger—Satan does not give up. In verse 5 he comes back and takes Jesus up into the Holy City, sets Him on the pinnacle of the temple with the temple crowds down below. Les interprets this second temptation as the lust of the eye: Satan stages a great showmanship event, like a Madison Avenue advertiser, urging Jesus to cast Himself down and have angels sweep down and catch Him before He hits the ground. Satan quotes Scripture that angels would bear Him up. Jesus refuses in verse 7, saying, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” Les notes Jesus will not do it no matter what Satan tempts Him with. Then comes the third temptation, the pride of life.
