Where does the river described in Ezekiel 47 come from?
Ezekiel 47 describes a river that originates from underneath the sanctuary in Jerusalem. It comes out from that holy place, and the prophecy connects it to the future Kingdom when Christ has returned, bringing healing and life to the Dead Sea region.
Les explains that Ezekiel 47 is another prophetic book spoken in symbolism. The river is seen coming out from underneath the sanctuary at Jerusalem, just as earlier in Zechariah. He then moves to verse 10, where the prophecy looks forward to the time when the Kingdom is set up and Christ has returned. At that time, fishermen will stand on the Dead Sea from En Gedi all the way to En Eglium, and there will be a place to spread their nets. The waters will be healed, everything shall live wherever the river comes, and fish will be very many, according to their kinds, like the fish of the great sea, the Mediterranean. These are physical elements of the coming Kingdom.
