How did God work in Peter and Paul differently?
Scripture shows God wrought effectually in Peter for apostleship of the circumcision, the Jews, while the same God was mighty in Paul toward the Gentiles. The gospel of the circumcision was committed to Peter, and the gospel of the uncircumcision to Paul.
Les explains that Peter confined his ministry to the Jew, while Paul was the apostle of the Gentiles. By twenty-two years after Pentecost, the prophetic program had begun to fall through the cracks as Israel was rejecting it left and right, and God had raised up this apostle of the Gentiles. While Israel is going down, the Gentile assembly, or church, is coming up. In this passage, Paul says the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed to him as the gospel of the circumcision was to Peter. The same God who worked effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision was mighty in Paul toward the Gentiles. Les also points out that Peter, James, and John are not seen going to Gentiles in that verse.
