How did God work in Peter and Paul according to Galatians 2:8?
According to Galatians 2:8, the same God who worked effectually in Peter directed his apostleship to the circumcision, the Jews. That same God was mighty in Paul toward the Gentiles. God thus empowered both men for distinct apostolic missions—Peter to Israel, Paul to the nations.
Les explains that in Galatians 2:7–9, the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed to Paul, while the gospel of the circumcision was committed to Peter. The circumcision refers to Jews in Scripture. Verse 8 identifies God as the one who wrought effectually in Peter for the apostleship of the circumcision, Israel, and the same God was mighty in Paul toward the Gentiles. James, Peter, and John, who seemed to be pillars, recognized the grace given to Paul and gave Paul and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, agreeing that Paul and Barnabas should go to the heathen/Gentiles and they to the Jew.
(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
