What did Jesus do when he read from Isaiah in the temple?
Reading in the temple from Isaiah, He stopped in the middle of the verse, sat down, and declared that the Scripture was fulfilled that day. He did not continue reading the rest of the verse, stopping exactly where the prophetic program required.
Les explains that Jesus, reading in the temple, stopped in the middle of the Isaiah verse, sat down, and said, "This day is this fulfilled." He stopped exactly where he should have stopped, even though the rest of the verse continued on. By contrast, Peter did not have that foreknowledge and quoted Joel straight through the prophetic program.
