Why did Jesus stop reading where He stopped in Isaiah 61?
Jesus stopped reading before the day of vengeance because the Old Testament prophetic program was to be interrupted after His ascension. The kingdom and vengeance would not come at that time; God's time clock paused after the crucifixion until the church is complete, then the final seven years resume.
Les explains that Jesus stopped where He stopped because He knew the Old Testament program would be interrupted at some point shortly after His ascension. The day of vengeance and the kingdom would not come in until a later day. Using the analogy of God's time clock, Les says everything had been on schedule: 490 years of God's dealing with Israel were determined, 483 years culminated with the crucifixion, and then God's clock stopped. It will not pick up again until the church is completed and the bride is complete, then the final seven years can come in. This interruption allows for calling out the bride of Christ, completing the body of Christ, taking it out of the way, and then continuing the prophetic program.
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
