What did the resurrected Christ tell His disciples to do in Acts 1:4?

In Acts 1:4, the resurrected Christ commanded His assembled disciples not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father, which He said they had heard of Him. This command preceded Pentecost, when they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that Acts 1:4 comes after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. At that point, there had not yet been a single word about going to the Gentiles with the gospel of grace; everything was still based on the Abrahamic covenant, dealing with Israel first and then the Gentiles. Christ, now in His resurrected body, commanded the disciples not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father, which they had heard of Him. Les then connects this to verse 5: John truly baptized with water, but they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence, which took place at Pentecost.

Acts 1:4

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
