What happened when Peter and John preached the resurrection of Christ in Acts 4?

When Peter and John and the other apostles preached that Jesus had been crucified and raised from the dead, it provoked opposition from the Sadducees, the Jewish religious leaders who denied any resurrection, life after death, or future hope. Their proclamation stirred up a hornet's nest.

Les explains that Peter and the rest of the twelve continued to preach that the Jesus they had crucified had been raised from the dead. This flew in the face especially of the Sadducees, who did not believe in a resurrection of the dead or in a life hereafter. To them, eternalness meant only passing life on to the next generation. So when Peter, John, and the rest proclaimed the resurrection of Christ and the hope of resurrection for other believers, it caused a hornet's nest.
