What did Peter command the men of Israel to do in Acts 2?

Peter commanded the men of Israel to repent and be baptized, every one of them, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, with the promise that they would receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This was a national call to recognize Jesus as Messiah and King.

Les explains that the question in Acts 2 came from the nation of Israel: “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Peter’s answer was, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Les emphasizes the word “every one,” noting it is repeated again in chapter 3. He teaches that if every Jew or Israelite had repented of their national sin and recognized that the one they killed was indeed their Messiah and King, God would have sent Christ at that time to be their King and set up the kingdom. He also reminds his class to look in these early chapters of Acts for death, burial, and resurrection as a means of salvation, but says it is not there.

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
