What was the image Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream made of?

The image was a huge human likeness composed of different metals: a head of gold, chest of silver, belly of brass, legs of iron, and feet and toes of iron mixed with clay. It depicted successive Gentile empires, beginning with Babylon and continuing through later kingdoms.

Les explains that Daniel chapter 2 presents Nebuchadnezzar's dream as a huge likeness of a man made of various metals. The head was gold, the chest silver, the belly brass, the legs iron, and the toes and feet were iron mixed with clay. Les teaches that this image depicted the great Gentile empires that would come on the scene: Babylon, then the Medes and Persians, then the Greeks, and then the Romans. He further notes that the dream continued until a stone cut out without hands smote the image upon its feet and broke the metals to pieces together. Those residues became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors, ground to powder and blown away.
