Why did God keep sending prophets to Judah according to 2 Chronicles 36:15?

According to 2 Chronicles 36:15, God kept sending prophets to Judah because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. Rising up early and sending His messengers, He repeatedly warned them and called them back from idolatry, seeking to turn them before judgment came, though they would not listen.

Les teaches that in 2 Chronicles chapter 36, verse 15, the southern kingdom in the area of Jerusalem is in view. The Lord God of their fathers sent to them by His messengers, rising up betimes and sending, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. God sent prophet after prophet, first to the northern kingdom, where Elijah and Elisha worked constantly trying to bring the nation back, but they would not. God does the same thing with Judah. Jeremiah was a prophet down in Judah, called the weeping prophet because he could see the handwriting on the wall concerning Judah: if they did not turn from their idolatry, the Babylonians would come, overrun them, kill without mercy, and take what was left captive. They threw Jeremiah into a dank, wet dungeon and left him there to rot, and that is where the Babylonians found him, because he tried to warn his people.
