Why did God keep sending prophets to warn His people in 2 Chronicles 36?

God kept sending prophets because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. Scripture states He sent His messengers rising up early and sending them. He warned Judah through prophets such as Jeremiah to turn from idolatry before Babylon's coming judgment, but the people rejected the warning and threw Jeremiah into a dungeon.

Les explains that 2 Chronicles 36:15 deals with the southern kingdom of Judah around Jerusalem. The Lord God of their fathers sent to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. God sent prophet after prophet. In the northern kingdom, Elijah and Elisha prophesied and worked constantly to bring the nation back, but they would not return. God did the same with Judah. Jeremiah was a prophet in Judah, called the weeping prophet because he could see the handwriting on the wall concerning Judah: if they did not turn from idolatry, God would judge them. Jeremiah prophesied that the Babylonians would come, overrun them, kill without mercy, and take the remnant captive. Instead of listening, they threw Jeremiah into a dank, wet dungeon and left him to rot; the Babylonians found him there. He was there because he tried to warn his people.
