Why did God send the Babylonians against Israel?
Because Israel repeatedly mocked God's messengers, despised His words, and misused His prophets until His wrath arose and there was no remedy, God brought the Babylonians, the Chaldeans under Nebuchadnezzar, against them as judgment. Their persistent rejection of prophetic warnings left no hope, so He gave them into the Babylonian king's hand.
Les explains that God repeatedly sent prophets and messengers to warn Israel, but they mocked the messengers, despised His words, and misused His prophets until the Lord’s wrath arose and there was no remedy, no hope. He ties this to the parable of the husbandman’s vineyard: the owner sent servants, but the keepers killed them; finally he sent his son, and they killed him too. That pictured God dealing with Israel—He sent prophets, and they killed them; finally He sent His Son, and they killed Him. Therefore God brought the king of the Chaldeans, the Babylonians, under Nebuchadnezzar against them, and they slew young men with the sword, showing no compassion on young or old; God gave them all into the Babylonian king’s hand.
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
