Why does Les teach about Balaam in all his classes?
Balaam is taught in all classes to establish two facts: Israel numbered three to seven million plus livestock, and Balaam serves as the perfect example of false teachers. This is especially urgent because false teaching overwhelms people today, brainwashing many who do not realize it does not come from the Book.
Les teaches Balaam in all his classes because he stops and takes an hour or two to point out two basic facts. First, he wants to show he was not kidding when he said there were anywhere from three to seven million Israelites, plus all their livestock. Second, he wants to show how Balaam is the perfect picture and perfect example of false teachers. He emphasizes that if ever there has been a day to be aware of false teaching, it is today, when people are overwhelmed by it from every direction. Many are spouting off about what they think the Word says, and too many are brainwashed without realizing much of this does not come from the Book. So he takes these moments to study Balaam.
