Balaamism is using the Word of God for financial gain, following the way of Balaam, who loved the wages of unrighteousness. It is when people employ God's Word to line their own pockets, as Balaam sought wealth by cursing those people, cashing in on his divination and enchantments.

Balaam could not refrain from going back to Moab to curse those people because he saw the wealth he could gain by confusing the issue. Les applies this today by asking how many people use the Word of God to line their own pockets, calling it an abomination in God's sight to use the Word of God for profit. He distinguishes this from pastors and preachers who are due their salaries, clarifying he means those using the Word of God for no other reason than to enhance their own financial status. Balaam was in it for one purpose: to line his own pocket, thinking he could cash in on his talent or gift of divination and enchantments. Les notes the New Testament has the same thing.
