Why is awareness of false teaching so important today?
Because false teaching is everywhere today, overwhelming people from every direction, awareness is crucial. Many are speaking about what they think the Word says, and too many are being brainwashed without realizing that much of it does not come from the book. Balaam serves as the perfect example of false teachers.
Les explains that he stops to teach Balaam at length because Balaam is the perfect picture and example of false teachers. He says that if ever there has been a day when we have to be aware of false teaching, it is today, since we are literally being overwhelmed by it from every direction. People are spouting off about what they think the Word says, and too many are simply being brainwashed without realizing that a lot of this stuff does not come from the book. That is why he takes time to study Balaam.
