What does Isaiah 52:13-14 say about Christ's appearance?

Isaiah 52:13-14 prophesies concerning Christ that God’s servant shall deal prudently and be exalted, extolled, and very high. It says His visage, or appearance, was so marred more than any man, and His form more marred than the sons of men.

Les teaches that Isaiah 52:13-14 is a prophecy concerning Christ. He points out that His visage, or appearance, was so marred more than any man, and His form more marred than the sons of men. Les explains what Christ endured before the cross: scourgings that literally made a man’s back like hamburger, the crown of thorns pushed on His head, and His beard ripped out, which takes flesh with it. He hung on the cross, and the last picture Mary had of Him was awful. Les then connects this to John’s gospel, where Mary looks at the person standing there, not knowing it was Jesus, and thinks Him to be the gardener. Jesus speaks to her, asking why she weeps and whom she seeks, and then says, “Mary.”
