Les Feldick Bible Study

Why is understanding the Abrahamic Covenant necessary for understanding the New Testament?

The Abrahamic Covenant is foundational because it explains the promise to Abraham, Israel's 430-year timeline to nationhood, the Egyptian sojourn, the Middle East situation, and even the New Testament, Age of Grace, and prophecy. Without grasping what it entails, those later biblical developments remain difficult to understand.

Les explains that unless a person understands the Abrahamic Covenant and all that it entails, it is hard to understand the New Testament, the Age of Grace, prophecy, and the Middle East. He notes that the whole Middle East situation rests on what is back in Genesis. He also points to the timeline: God promised Abraham that from His call to go to the land He would show him—Canaan—until Israel would be a nation coming out of Egypt would be 430 years. Les further notes that 215 years elapsed before the sojourn in Egypt even began, correcting the impression that Israel was in slavery for the whole 400 years.
