Why is it important to understand the Abrahamic Covenant?
Understanding the Abrahamic Covenant is essential because without it the New Testament, the Age of Grace, prophecy, and the Middle East are hard to comprehend. The Middle East situation rests on what is in Genesis, and the covenant includes a 430-year timeline from Abraham’s call until Israel emerges from Egypt as a nation.
Les teaches that unless a person understands the Abrahamic Covenant and all that it entails, it is just pretty hard to understand the New Testament and even our Age of Grace and prophecy and the Middle East. The whole Middle East situation, he explains, is resting upon what is back in Genesis. He also puts a partial timeline on the board to show the time element between events people often assume happened in a week or two but actually took years. God promised Abraham that from His call to go to the land of Canaan until Israel would be a nation coming out of Egypt would be 430 years. The exact middle of that 430 years is the beginning of Israel’s sojourn in Egypt, meaning 215 years elapsed before the Egyptian sojourn even began. Les notes that many have probably been under the impression that the Israelites were in slavery and bondage for the whole 400 years.
