Who entered Jesus' empty tomb first, Peter or John?

Peter entered the empty tomb first. John outran Peter and arrived at the sepulcher first, but he hesitated; Peter, described as the rugged fisherman, burst right in. Scripture then notes the other disciple, John, also went in afterward and believed.

Les explains that after Peter and John were told Christ was not in the tomb, they ran to it. John, probably more athletic, outran Peter and arrived first, but he was timid and reluctant. Peter, the big, rugged fisherman, burst right into the cave tomb. Later John also entered, saw the evidence, and believed, though as yet they did not know the Scripture that He must rise from the dead.
