Who reached the empty tomb first after Mary Magdalene's report, Peter or John?
John reached the tomb first. John's Gospel records that after Mary Magdalene reported the stolen body, Peter and John ran together to the sepulcher, but the other disciple outran Peter and came first to the tomb. The text notes John was quicker afoot, though more timid.
Les explains that this was resurrection morning, when Mary Magdalene came to anoint the corpse, found the body gone, and ran to tell Peter and John that someone had stolen the body. Both then ran to the sepulcher. John outran Peter and arrived first, because he was quicker afoot, but he was also more timid than Peter.
