What does Genesis 24 illustrate about the Holy Spirit's work?

Genesis 24 illustrates the Holy Spirit’s present work of calling out a bride for Christ. Abraham sending his servant to obtain a bride for Isaac parallels the Spirit’s mission today. Though the chapter is not a perfect type because of one detail, it remains a good illustration of that divine work.

Les teaches that Genesis 24 is a strong illustration, though not a perfect type because one detail breaks down. Abraham sends his servant to get a bride for his son Isaac, and this is a perfect parallel at least of what the Holy Spirit is doing today to call out the bride for Christ. Earlier, Les explained that a type is a perfect illustration of a New Testament truth. Isaac is by type a picture of grace, the son of promise, while Ishmael was the son of the flesh and was depicted by Paul in Galatians as a picture of law. So chapter 24 comes close to being a type, but Les prefers to call it a good illustration of the Holy Spirit’s work in calling out the bride for Christ.

Genesis 24:1

And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
