What did the Holy Spirit do for the believer's spirit when He came in?

When the Holy Spirit came in, He empowered the believer’s human spirit, which was created as part of body, soul, and spirit. The Holy Spirit now works in consort with that spirit, enabling the believer to live victoriously over the old Adam and the flesh.

Les explains that as soon as old Adam is crucified, in God’s eyes he is completely dead and out of the picture, but in our experience he is still here though defeated. He does not have to remain uppermost; if he does, it is because we are not fighting the battle. The Holy Spirit came in and empowered our spirit—the spirit that was part of creation, body, soul, and spirit—and by working in consort with our spirit, we can now live victoriously. Old Adam is powerful and will come to the fore at times, but this is where the warfare exists. There would be no warfare were it not for the indwelling Holy Spirit. Otherwise there would not even be a battle line, and we would not stand a chance against the forces of old Adam and Satan without the Holy Spirit. Les also notes the Greek term Pneuma Hagion, meaning that power from on high.
