What did Adam believe about his descendants after the Fall?
After the Fall, Adam believed God’s promise that he would live, have children, and that the whole human race would come from him and Eve. By faith he took God at His word and named his wife Eve, meaning the mother of all living.
Les explains that before sin entered, Adam never named his wife; she was simply called the woman. But after sin and the curse, Adam calls her Eve, which means the mother of all living. Even though Adam had sinned and lost fellowship with God, he understood that God must have told him something he believed: he would live, have children, and the whole human race would come from him and Eve. Les says this is the first instance of faith, taking God at His word. By faith Adam believed what God said concerning him and the woman, so he named her the mother of all living.
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
