What happened to Adam's spirit when he sinned?

When Adam sinned, his soul immediately became a sin nature, and the spirit part of him died. Because his spirit was dead, he lost fellowship with his Creator. This spiritual death passed to humanity, requiring an outside source—God's power—to energize the spirit and make a person a new creation.

Les explains that when Adam sinned, immediately his soul became a sin nature, and the spirit part of him died, and he lost fellowship with his Creator because it was now dead. Les uses the analogy of a dead battery in a car: you can wash it and make it shine like a new dime, but when you turn the key, nothing happens because it is still dead. Then when you bring in outside energy, you get power. Spiritually, we have been dead as a result of Adam's sin, and it takes an outside source of power, or the power of God, to energize our spirit. When He energizes the spirit, He makes us a new person, or a new creation.
