Why did God give Adam a mind, will, and emotions?
God gave Adam a mind, will, and emotions so that, as a created being, he would possess every capability required to exercise dominion over all creation under God. These faculties equipped him for the dominion God assigned, and God expected obedience in return.
Les explains that when God created man, He gave him a will and intended to give him the very best, asking only obedience in return. God assigned Adam dominion over all creation under God, and that is why He gave him the mind, the will, and a set of emotions—so that as a created being he would have all the capabilities for that dominion. Les notes Adam's tremendous intelligence and perfection: he had everything going for him, was practically immortal, made incorrupt, with no corrupt cell in his body, and could have lived forever. That was his potential, though God knew he would not.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
