What does the blood of Christ do for our conscience according to Hebrews 9:14?
Hebrews 9:14 states that the blood of Christ, offered through the eternal Spirit without spot to God, purges the conscience from dead works to serve the living God. It cleanses the conscience from dead works and enables the person to serve God.
Les explains that verse 14 follows the comparison that even though the earlier things were good, the blood of Christ is how much better. Through the eternal Spirit—that is, through the power of the Holy Spirit—Christ offered Himself without spot to God, and that offering will purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Les then connects this to Hebrews 9:22, an absolute of Scripture: almost all things are by law purged with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission. He stresses that this absolute must be held and not sidetracked. He also notes that Peter agrees 100% with Paul in theology, citing 1 Peter 1:18–19 about redemption not with corruptible things like silver and gold.
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
