What is the threefold position of the believer?

The threefold position is expressed as: the old Adam is dead and the old sin nature is reckoned dead; the life is hid in God and in Christ; and the believer is in Christ and in God, safe and secure, with nothing able to touch them.

Les explains that the old Adam is dead, and God reckons the old sin nature of believers as dead; the life believers have is hid in God and in Christ. He calls this the threefold position of the believer—in Christ and in God—where nothing can touch us in that glorious, safe, secure position. To illustrate, he uses the black walnut: you knock off the outer shell, crack the next shell, and find the delicious meat in the middle. He also points to Israel on Passover night, safe because the blood was on the door while the death angel was at work, and to Noah and his family, safe in the ark lined with pitch, which in Hebrew meant atonement. Likewise, believers in Christ are safe amid the wickedness taking place on the earth, and Paul says not to worry about the one who can destroy the body but cannot destroy the soul.
