How should a believer's life relate to their position in Christ?
A believer’s life should match their position in Christ. Since believers are baptized into the body of Christ and are in Christ, they are to walk in the Spirit and live in accord with that position. Walking according to the position God has given them prevents giving in to the desires of the flesh, Old Adam.
Les explains that the believer’s position in Christ is doctrinal: when a person became a believer, they were baptized into the body of Christ, and that is now their position—they are in Christ. Because of that position, they are to walk in the Spirit, and by walking in the Spirit they shall not fulfill or live after the desires of the flesh, which is Old Adam. If they walk according to the position God has given them, they will not give in to the demands of Old Adam. Les qualifies the word “position” with the illustration of a presidency, such as the president of a great corporation or the President of the United States. Many different people may hold the office, but the position itself is recognized and continues to be filled. In the same way, believers have a position in Christ, and they are to live in accord with that position, just as people in important places are expected to live in accordance with their position.

Our position in Christ is a real position that should regulate our conduct, just as the presidency of the United States or of a corporation is an established office that its occupants are expected to live up to.
