Why were Noah and his family safe during the flood?

Noah and his family were safe during the flood because they were inside the wooden ark, which had been lined with pitch. In the Hebrew, pitch meant atonement, so amid the flood’s horrors that were demolishing everything on the planet, they were safe and secure in that positioned place of safety.

Les teaches that Noah and his family were safe and secure in the ark even while the horrors and ravages of the flood were totally demolishing everything on the planet. Their safety was because that wooden ark had been lined with pitch, and pitch in the Hebrew meant atonement. He uses this as one of two Old Testament analogies of safety: just as the Jews on Passover night were safe because the blood was on the door while the death angel moved across Egypt, so Noah and his family were safe in the midst of the flood. Les then applies this to the believer’s threefold position in Christ and in God, where nothing can touch us in that glorious, safe, secure position. He adds that Paul says not to worry about he who can destroy the body when he cannot destroy the soul.
